CFPA Performer of the Year Watch List
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Duquesne sophomore running back A.J. Hines was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy watch list, the organization announced today.
The list includes 42 returning performers from the Football Championship Subdivision. James Madison quarterback Bryan Schor won the award for his performance last season. The Fike, N.C. native is just one of 14 running backs named to the watch list.
Hines returns after a standout freshman campaign in which he was named the winner of the STATS FCS Jerry Rice Award as the Football Championship Subdivision's top freshman. He ran for a Dukes freshman-record 1,291 yards and 13 touchdowns, the most in either category by any Duquesne running back since Mike Hilliard, who rushed for 1,544 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2003.
He was a First Team All-Northeast Conference selection, recording seven 100-yard games, highlighted by a 189-yard, two-touchdown performance against Dayton.
Hines and Saint Francis wide receiver Kamron Lewis were the only players recognized from the NEC on the list.
The award winner will be announced on Jan. 10, 2018.
Hines and the Dukes open the 2017 season on the road at No. 4 South Dakota State on Thursday, Aug. 31.
