Duquesne fullback Josh Rue, who was released from the Miami Dolphins' camp during the first week of training, was only off the gridiron for about a week. The Pittsburgh native signed with the Arizona Cardinals this past Monday. The Cardinals' press release stated, "... Rue [was] a multi-talented performer at Duquesne University where he rushed for 25 touchdowns and averaged over six yards-per-carry in three seasons."

Tony Zimmerman, in his second season with the AF2 Quad City Steamrollers, will be taking the field tonight in his first playoff game. The Steamrollers hold the number one seed and had a first round bye in the Arena Cup playoffs. Zimmerman finished the regular season with 4,357 yards, completing 286 of the 512 passes thrown (55.9 percent). He set the league record for most passing touchdowns with 93 scoring tosses, tied with three others with a season-least seven interceptions and, as he did throughout his career with the Dukes, has a quarterback rating over 100 at 118.0.

Leigh Bodden continues to get good press from his first NFL preseason camp with the Cleveland Browns. For instance, Pat Kirwan wrote in a recent NFL.com article, "Speaking of keepers, ... Undrafted cornerback Leigh Bodden from Duquesne is big at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds and has a way of being around the ball."

All of these players are in action Saturday evening:

  • Bodden's Browns will head to Nashville to face the Tennessee Titans
  • Rue's Cardinals host the Dallas Cowboys in Phoenix
  • Zimmerman's Steamrollers host the Arkansas Twisters in Davenport, Iowa
There's more AF2 news on another Duquesne graduate, Steve Lindsey. Lindsey, who was invited to the Washington Redskins rookie camp in April 2002, is now playing for the Mohegan Wolves. Lindsey plays center on offense and noseguard on defense. The Wolves reached the second round of the playoffs after beating the Cape Fear Wildcats in an opening round contest but lost to the Tennessee Valley Vipers Friday night by a 47-30 score.
