@DuqFB to Honor Dan Rooney in 2017
Aug. 28, 2017

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne football team will honor alumnus Dan Rooney with a commemorative helmet decal this season. The decal, a black circle with the initials “DR” in gold, will be placed on the back of each helmet in honor of the life of the former Pittsburgh Steelers chairman.

“The Rooney family has meant so much to both Duquesne University and our football program, that we wanted to show our appreciation and honor the life of Mr. Rooney.” said DU head coach Jerry Schmitt. “I know our players will take great pride in wearing that decal in memory of the tremendous impact Mr. Rooney had both on our university and the game of football.”

Duquesne, which plays its home games on Arthur J. Rooney Athletic Field, a venue named after Dan Rooney’s father, opens the 2017 season at South Dakota State on Thursday night. The game, set for an 8:00 p.m. (ET) kick, will be televised locally on AT&T SportsNet.
