SOMERSET, N.J. - Duquesne quarterback Tommy Stuart (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall/Boise State) garnered Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Dukes' 28-23 road victory at Dayton, conference officials announced today.
Stuart finished with four total touchdowns against the Flyers, throwing for a pair of scores to go with two rushing touchdowns. He completed 19-of-31 passes for 253 yards in the triumph to go with 14 rushes for 51 yards.
The graduate transfer connected with junior wide receiver Nehari Crawford (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce Central) on a 58-yard touchdown pass to even the score at 7-7 on Saturday, before his one-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter put the Dukes ahead 14-7.
After Dayton knotted the game at 14-14, Stuart found sophomore wide receiver Kellon Taylor (Landover, Md./DeMatha Catholic) in the back right corner of the end zone with just 32 seconds to play in the half, giving Duquesne a 21-14 halftime edge.
Following a Flyers fumble in the fourth quarter, Stuart marched the Dukes 81 yards in nine plays, capping the drive with another touchdown rush, this time from six yards out.
Stuart is the first Duquesne quarterback to rush for at least two touchdowns in a game since Sean Patterson against Sacred Heart on Oct. 20, 2012.
On the season, Stuart has completed 67.0 percent (61-of-91) of his pass attempts for 720 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also registered three rushing scores on the year.
