Buechel Named NEC Rookie of Week for Second Time This Season
Sept. 23, 2013
PITTSBURGH - Freshman quarterback Dillon Buechel (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) has been named NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season for his performance in Saturday's game at Youngstown State.
The 6-3, 176-pound Montour High School product completed 21-of-38 passes for 362 yards and a touchdown in the 59-17 defeat. The 362 yards, which were the 11th-most in school history, were three shy of the DU freshman record set by Scott Knapp vs. Robert Morris in 2005. It was also the highest passing output by an NEC quarterback this season.
Buechel, who has thrown for 966 yards and five touchdowns (with one interception) in three games, ranks seventh nationally in passing yards per game (322.0) and 19th passing efficiency (155.0).
Buechel is the first Duke to earn multiple NEC Rookie of the Week honors since all-time leading rusher Larry McCoy was named three times in 2009.
Duquesne (1-2), which is idle this week, returns to action on Oct. 5 against West Liberty University on Rooney Field. Game time is 12:10 p.m.
