Duquesne graduate student middle linebacker Derron Thomas (Forrestville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Duquesne's non-conference victory over Robert Morris on Saturday.

Thomas, who entered the RMU game ranked 9th nationally in tackles per game (11.2 tpg.), finished with a team-high 14 stops in Duquesne's 17-14 win. It was his second-highest tackle total this year and sixth double-digit tackle outing in seven games.

Thomas, who transferred to Duquesne after playing in 26 games at the University of Pittsburgh from 2003-06, currently ranks eighth nationally in the Football Championship Subdivision with an average of 11.57 tackles per game.

Duquesne (5-2, 1-0), winner of five in a row, heads to New Rochelle, N.Y. on Saturday to face Iona (5-2, 1-0) in a showdown between the top two teams in the MAAC. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
