SOMERSET, N.J. - Sophomore running back A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike) earned Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades for his performance in Duquesne's 24-7 victory over Saint Francis on Saturday afternoon, conference officials announced on Monday.
Hines, who shares the honor with Central Connecticut State running back Drew Jean-Guillaume, garners his first Player of the Week honor in 2017 after being named NEC Rookie of the Week a conference-record 10 times in 2016.
The Wilson, N.C. native tallied a game-high 123 rushing yards on 28 carries on Saturday in the win over the Red Flash in a key NEC matchup at Rooney Field. It marked Hines' 10th career 100-yard rushing game, as the sophomore becomes just the fourth player in Duquesne history to eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark 10 times in his career.
He added a pair of receptions for 37 yards, totaling 160 yards from scrimmage in the contest.
St. Francis came into the game as the league's top-ranked defense, limiting opponents to just 12 points and 299.7 yards per game. Hines and the Dukes finished with 24 points and 377 total yards including 235 yards on the ground, more rushing yards than any other Red Flash opponent this year.
The 2016 STATS Jerry Rice Award winner rushed for seven first downs against St. Francis, including five in the first half which helped Duquesne score three touchdowns and connect on a field goal. Hines also caught two passes which moved the chains, including a 24-yard reception on 3rd-and-7 on the Dukes' first drive of the afternoon before later hauling in a 13-yard catch on 3rd-and-11 in the second half.
Hines and the Dukes hit the road to face Sacred Heart in another NEC contest this Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon ET.
