SOMERSET, N.J. - Duquesne freshman running back DeWayne Murray III (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week for his performance in the Dukes' 37-21 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday, conference officials announced on Monday.
Murray tallied a career-high 18 carries for 67 yards in the win, including three first down runs in the fourth quarter to help Duquesne improve to 4-0 in NEC play.
The freshman was part of the Dukes' rushing attack which finished with 231 yards on the ground in the triumph against the Pioneers. Duquesne has rushed for at least 230 yards in each of the last three games.
The Steel Valley product has recorded 189 rushing yards on 42 carries in five games this season.
Murray and the Dukes return to action this Saturday, Nov. 4 traveling to Lynchburg, Va. to take on Liberty in the season's final non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m. ET.
