Nov. 16, 2009
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne freshman running back Larry McCoy (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the third time this season following his school record-tying five touchdown performance in Duquesne's 45-42 win at Sacred Heart on Saturday.
McCoy carried 20 times in notching his fourth 100-yard game of the season with 121. The Virginia native's five rushing TD's tied both the NEC single-game record and the Duquesne school mark set by Mike Hilliard against La Salle in 2003.
McCoy's fourth touchdown, a 13-yard run, broke a 28-28 tie with 6:09 remaining. His one-yard plunge with fewer than 2:00 remaining extended the Dukes' advantage to 42-34.
McCoy, who leads the Dukes with 770 yards rushing (5.1 ypc.), has the nation's top yards per game average (77.0) among NCAA FCS freshmen.
