2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
PITTSBURGH - Junior offensive lineman Matt Fitzpatrick (Pennsauken, N.J./Bishop Eustace) garnered College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Football Team honors, the organization announced on Thursday.
Fitzpatrick, a finance major with a 3.82 GPA, was one of five offensive linemen named to the District 2 team that encompasses Division I programs in Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
CoSIDA recognizes eight districts nationally.
As a first-team Academic All-District® honoree, Fitzpatrick will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in December.
Fitzpatrick is a two-year starter at left guard for Duquesne, earning All-NEC Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2016. He has helped the Dukes average 417.5 yards per game in 2017, including 219.0 passing yards and a league-best 198.5 rushing yards per game. Duquesne also boasts the top scoring offense in the NEC (33.1 ppg.).
The Dukes rank 11th in FCS football with just 43 tackles for loss allowed on the season while sitting 18th in the country with 11 sacks allowed.
Duquesne caps the 2017 season this Saturday at Bryant at noon ET.
