Mike Namey Paces Dukes On Day One Of A-10 Championships
May 2, 2003
Kettering, Ohio - Sophomore Mike Namey (Hermitage, PA / Kennedy Christian) paced the Dukes on day one of the Atlantic 10 Golf Championship held on the South Course of the NCR Country Club in the Dayton suburbs. The par-71 course measures 6,733 yards.
Xavier's Andy Pope and Rhode Island's David Spitz are tied for first with a one-under par 70. Namey's 77 was good for 19th place. The weather turned foul in the late afternoon forcing suspension of play for one hour and five minutes. As play was being halted, three players, Chris Thude of Temple, Tim Smith of Xavier and Rhode Island's Chad Spencer were disqualified for continuing to play after the suspension of play signal went off. The three will be able to compete in the remainder of the tournament. Duquesne is in last place of the 11 teams competing with a team score of 327, one stroke behind La Salle. The A-10's Ohio teams, Dayton and Xavier, have a three stroke lead and are tied with a score of 299. The second round of the three-day 54 hole Championship will start at noon on Saturday, May 3.
