Dukes Take 10th Place at A-10 Golf Championships

Winter Garden, Fla. - Duquesne's golf team improved on their prevous day's score for the second time in a row and took 10th place following Sunday's final round of the 12-team Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship at the Orange County (FL) National Golf Center.
The Dukes, who moved into 10th by one stroke Saturday, compiled a 54-hole total of 917, 18 strokes ahead of 11th-place Fordham. Last season, Duquesne was 12th in the 2006 13-team event.
Four of the five Duquesne athletes improved yesterday's marks. Sophomore Drew Ellis, who was tied for 34th Saturday, paced the Red and Blue with a one-over par 73 and 28th place (tie) in the 60-golfer tournament. Senior Derek Evans amd sophomore Brendan Madden bettered Saturday's outing by three strokes apiece.
Charlotte, which entered the final round with a one-stroke lead over Xavier, won their second straight A-10 title by nine strokes. The 49ers' earned the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Golf Championship and will be making their third-straight NCAA appearance.
Charlotte's Matt Mincer shot a three-day total of 14-under 202 to win the individual crown. His freshman teammate, Corey Nagy, earned the Rookie of the Year award as the top first-year finisher. Nagy posted a 208, tying for third-place. Charlotte head coach Jamie Green was named the A-10 Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season -- the 49ers' first two campaigns in the Atlantic 10.
