DU Golf At Atlantic 10 Championships This Weekend

Duquesne University's golf team is concluding the 2003-04 season this weekend at the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Golf Championship, Apr. 30-May 2, at the Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, R.I. Head Coach Nellie King's squad is looking to improve on last year's result when the Dukes finished ninth of 11 teams.

Sophomore Andy Kwiatkowski (Apalachin, NY / Owego Free Academy) is on a hot streak, scoring in the 70s in four of his last five rounds. Junior Mike Namey (Hermitage, PA / Kennedy Christian) has kept all rounds at 81 or below this spring (73, 78, 80, 81, 79, 75, 79, 80). Senior Steve Seiden (Media, PA / Strath Haven) was Duquesne's top finisher last year (27th overall out of 55 golfers) with an 82-79-74-235.

Xavier is the defending champion. Other schools participating are Dayton, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Temple.

The tournament begins at 8 a.m. this morning with the remaining rounds tieing off at the same time on Saturday and Sunday.
