Red and Blue Win Duquesne Classic
Aug. 30, 2003 The Red and Blue improved to 2-0 with a 3-2 win over Cleveland State in the final match of the Duquesne Classic. Jason Kutney and Andrew Bell scored in the first half while Damien Pottinger scored on a penalty kick in the second stanza to help give the Dukes the tournament crown. Duquesne and Temple were each 2-0 in the tourney but did not face each other, so the Dukes were named the champions based on goal differential. Duquesne outscored its two opponents by five goals while Temple outscored its by four. Kutney, Pottinger, Zach Varga and Steve Mellor were named to the All-Tournament Team while Kutney was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player and Pottinger the Offensive Most Valuable Player. The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 as they host Bucknell at 3:00 pm on Rooney Field. ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
