Box Score

Colin Phillips headed in the game's only goal in overtime off of a direct kick from Filip Velasevic as the Dukes defeated visiting Oakland 1-0 Sunday afternoon to improve to 2-0 on the season.

In the 96th minute, Oakland's Lucas Diener was given a yellow card following a hard hit on Duquesne's Ryan Merrifield. Following that, Velasevic took the direct kick from about 30 yards out on the right side of the field and curled it to the left side of the net where Phillips got a head on it.

In a physical, defensive battle, the Dukes were outshot 12-10 and trailed in corner kicks, 6-3. Sam Frymier made five saves in goal to post his second shutout of the season.

The Red and Blue return to action on Friday, Sept. 6 as they host Howard at 8:00 pm in the Duquesne Invitational.
