BOWLING GREEN, OHIO -- Duquesne University's men's soccer team (#9 NSCAA Mid-Atlantic) played to a 1-1 double overtime tie with the Detroit Titans Saturday afternoon at Bowling Green's Diadora Classic.
Detroit (2-0-1) took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when senior Eris Tafaj got a shot past McNelis with 26:12 on the clock. Pottinger knotted the score at 1-1 at 72:31 off assists from senior John Bechke (Strongsville, OH / St. Ignatius) and junior Jason Kutney (Freehold, NJ / Freehold Borough). McNelis stopped two Detroit shots in the final 17 minutes of regulation.
McNelis grabbed a save in each overtime period to preserve the point for the Dukes. Detroit lost two players because of red card violations, including its starting goalkeeper, after halftime.
The Dukes return to action Sunday when they face host Bowling Green (0-3-0) at 3:00 pm in the final match of the Diadora Classic. The Falcons were defeated by St. Francis (PA) (1-2-0) in Saturday's nightcap by a 4-1 score.
