Dukes Improve to 3-0 with 1-0 Blanking of Howard

Duquesne's men's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 1-0 blanking of visiting Howard in game two of the Duquesne Invitational Friday evening on Rooney Field.

In the 16th minute, Thomas DeVillardi got a pass past the HU defenders to Isaiah Noreiga who put it into the net. Ryan Merrifield also assisted on the play.

The Dukes held the Bison to four shots each half and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sam Frymier made three saves in posting his third shutout of the season.

The Red and Blue have not allowed a goal this season and have opened the season 3-0 for just the second time in school history. The 2003 Dukes also opened 3-0, en route to a 13-3-3 season.

In game one, St. Bonaventure defeated Incarnate Word, 2-1. The tournament concludes on Sunday, Sept. 8 as Howard and St. Bonaventure meet at 11:00 am and the Dukes host Incarnate Word at 2:00 pm.
