DU Men's Soccer Falls to Cleveland State, 3-2
Sept. 18, 2013
Duquesne's men's soccer team travelled to Cleveland State Wednesday evening and came home with a 3-2 loss to the host Vikings Wednesday night in Ohio.
The Dukes fell behind early as CSU scored the first goal in the 21st minute for the opening lead. The Red and Blue responded promptly in the 26th minute as Simon Gomez scored off a Josh Ellis assist to tie the score.
The Vikings would however score two more goals in the half, including one in the final minute of the period to make it, 3-1 at the intermission.
The Red and Blue narrowed the gap in the 72nd minute as Ellis scored his second goal of the season off a rebound, but the Dukes would not find the net again.
"We still have yet to put together a full 90-minutes this season and we have to continue to push and learn how to compete and overcome adversity," said head coach Chase Brooks. "Tonight's game was a tale of two halves, I think our guys learned that you have to show up and play every single game."
DU outshot CSU, 13-10 and had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Dukes return to action on Sunday, Sept. 22 as they travel to Penn State for a 1:00 pm contest.
