Duquesne's men's soccer team won its Atlantic 10 opener, 3-2 over Xavier Friday night on Rooney Field. The Dukes improve to 5-4 on the season and are 1-0 in A-10 play.

Duquesne trailed 1-0 early on as Xavier (2-7-0, 0-1-0) scored 10 minutes into the contest, but the Red and Blue responded quickly as freshman Aaron Van Overschelde found the back of the net less than four minutes later. Xavier struck back five minutes after that though to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room.

The Red and Blue dominated play in the second half, missing on several scoring chances before freshman Travis MacKenzie headed in the game-tying goal in the 63rd minute for his first collegiate goal and junior Scott Gibson scored the game-winner in the 70th minute off a rebound that junior Andrew Bell shot off the crossbar. Duquesne outshot the Musketeers 19-6 on the evening.

The Dukes return to action on Sunday, Oct. 3 as they host Dayton at 1:00 pm on Rooney Field.
