Dukes Play To 1-1 Double OT Tie At Richmond
Oct. 10, 2003
Richmond, Va. - Duquesne University's men's soccer team and the host Richmond Spiders were tied at 1-1 before 15 minutes had expired in the Atlantic 10 Conference game Friday night at First Market Stadium. After 95 more minutes of play, the game ended in that 1-1 tie.
Duquesne senior Dan Hartung (Reading, PA / Wilson) scored an unassisted goal with just 1:55 gone in the first half. The Spiders answered on Colin Vint's marker off Adam Kost's assist with the clock reading 14:25. From then on both goalies, Duquesne's freshman Zach Varga (Mountville, PA / Hempfield) and Richmond's Mike Nwaneri, stopped everything else headed their way.
Varga, this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, stopped five shots and Nwaneri had seven saves.
The Dukes are now 7-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in A-10 play. Richmond is 3-4-4 and 0-0-3 in league play. The Spiders played URI and UMass to scoreless ties last weekend.
Duquesne returns to action on Sunday, October 12, 2003, when they face George Washington (4-7-0, 2-1-0 A-10) at Mt. Vernon Field in our nation's capital.
