Men's Soccer Drops A-10 Opener at La Salle, 3-1
Oct. 11, 2013
Duquesne's men's soccer team fought back from a 1-0 deficit at LaSalle in the 19th minute with a Simon Gomez goal in the 27th minute, but could not find the net again in a 3-1 loss at La Salle in the Dukes' Atlantic 10 season opener.
"The guys worked extremely hard for the entirety of the 90 minutes," said head coach Chase Brooks. "At the end of the day, this sport is cruel at times, we did most everything we could to get shots on goal and to get the ball into the back of the net, but it just didn't fall for us tonight."
The Dukes outshot the Explorers, 10-9, led by a game-high five shots from Arnaud Cesarini. The Red and Blue also led 8-4 in corner kicks while Sam Frymier made four saves in goal.
"It's important for any team that is in a transitional period to learn and grow from mistakes and grow from games like this," Brooks continued. "How we react and come out on Sunday is the question. At this point of the season it is time to put up or shut up, so to speak. It doesn't matter how well you're playing, what matters is the result and we've got to find a way to get over the hump."
The Dukes return to action on Sunday as they travel to Saint Joseph's for a 1:00 pm contest.
