Red and Blue Post First A-10 Win with 3-0 Blanking of St. Joseph's
Oct. 13, 2013
After a scoreless first half, the Duquesne men's soccer team (6-5-0, 1-1-0) tallied three second half goals in posting a 3-0 Atlantic 10 victory at Saint Joseph's (2-5-5, 0-2-0) Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes recorded the game-winning goal a little over three minutes into the second half as Kadeem Pantophlet scored his first collegiate goal off assists from Filip Velasevic and Thomas de Villardi.
In the 60th minute, Chris Alescio found the back of the net for his first college goal off a Pantophlet helper.
"After Friday night's game, we talked to the guys about how are they going to respond and today was the exact right way to do that," said head coach Chase Brooks. "To put three goals in the back of the net against a team that's not given up a ton of goals was a good response from us. Now, it's about taking that momentum, continuing to prepare hard, continuing to do the little things right and continuing to have that ruthless desire to compete heading into St. Bonaventure next weekend."
Sam Frymier made four saves in goal to post his sixth shutout of the season as the Dukes outshot the Hawks, 15-10.
DU returns to the pitch on Saturday as they host the Bonnies at 7:00 pm on Rooney Field.
