Dukes Fall at High-Scoring Dayton, 1-0
Oct. 25, 2013
Duquesne's men's soccer team held the nation's fourth best scoring offense to one goal, but couldn't capitalize in a 1-0 loss at Dayton Friday evening.
The Dukes led the Flyers in shots, 16-13 as Thomas de Villardes and Kadeem Pantophet each had three chances. UD however led the Dukes in corners by a 10-2 count.
"Tonight, we had an opportunity against one of the better teams in the country to get a result on the road and we battled hard for the entirety of the 90 minutes, but in the end fell a bit short," said head coach Chase Brooks. "We knew Dayton would be tough on set pieces and it turns off, for one instance, that's the difference at this level. "You're not allowed to turn off, you have to play every second of every game and to Dayton's credit, they capitalized and got the result, Brooks continued."
"We now have to turn our focus to Saint Louis on Sunday and work hard at home to come out with a good taste in our mouth at the end of this week."
The Dukes return to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 as they host Saint Louis at noon in a Prostate Cancer Awareness match.
