Dukes Play to 2-2 Tie With Xavier

Duquesne's men's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie with Xavier on Sunday afternoon at DU's Rooney Field. The Dukes are 9-2-5 this season, 4-1-3 in conference play. The Musketeers record is 8-7-1, 3-4-1 A10.
After a scoreless first half, the Dukes jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by junior Damien Pottinger (Scarborough, Ontario / Mother Teresa) and sophomore Trocon Reffell (Houston, TX / Cypress Creek). Reffell and freshman Pat Dillon (Longhorne, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) assisted on the first goal while Pottinger assisted on the second.
However, Xavier pulled to within one with a goal in the 78th minute and scored the tying goal off a header by its goalkeeper Brian Schaeper off of a corner kick with 25 seconds remaining in regulation.
Senior goalie Terry McNelis (Reading, PA / Exeter Twp.) had six saves while Schaeper stopped 10 of DU's 12 shots on goal.
Pottinger tallied a goal and an assist in both games this weekend giving the Canadian native 12 goals and five assists so far this season, leading the Dukes' offensive attack with 29 points.
The Dukes return to action on Friday, Nov. 1 as they host Fordham (4-11, 1-7 A-10) at 7:00 p.m. on Rooney Field.
