Alvaro Navarro's goal in the 69th minute proved to be the game-winner as Dayton (8-7-2, 5-2) defeated Duquesne (3-12-1, 1-6) in a Senior Day match played in steady rain on Rooney Field. Justin Saliba was credited with two saves in posting the shutout for UD.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Duquesne pressured Dayton early with Austin Stout sending a long shot that was turned away by UD keeper Justin Saliba in the 15th minute. Nigel Seidu put a header on net off the ensuing corner kick.
Dayton didn't manage a shot until Alvaro Navarro had a shot blocked in the 31st minute.
Ryan Landry made the play of the half with a slide save on the line on a shot by Wariebi Jituboh in the final seconds of the half.
Duquesne had five shots in the first half to three for Dayton.
Navarro nearly bent one into the left side of the goal from just beyond the box, but the shot went just wide in the 66th minute.
Navarro made good on his next shot, taking a pass from Kyran McGhan-George and beating a pair of Duquesne defenders on the right side before putting a shot in the left corner from close range in the 69th minute.
McKelvey made a pair of saves off back-to-back shots by Thor Helgason in the 82nd minute.
The Dukes outshot the Flyers 14-13. Dayton had five shots on goal to two for Duquesne.
STAT OF THE GAME
Olav Hovstad, Austin Stout and Brett Stern had three shots apiece for the Dukes.
