Nov. 3, 2006
Charlottye, N.C. - Duquesne was knocked out of the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship Tournament Friday via a 1-0 shutout by nationally-ranked Saint Louis at Charlotte's Transamerica Field.
The game was an even match until the 53rd minute when Kyle Hayes scored from an assist from Alex Matteson. Before and after that, both defenses had the edge. Senior Zach Varga and SLU's Ross Kaufmann each had three saves.
Sophomore Drew Jeffrey's two shots on goal led the Dukes, who were outshot 9-6 in the twilight contest.
The Dukes finish their first year with Coach Jake Ouimet with an 11-6-2 record, 6-3-0 in league play. Duquesne has had five straight double-digit winning seasons and completed their fifth straight trip to the A-10 championship tournament.
Saint Louis, number eight in this week's national top 25, will take on the winner of the game between Rhode Island (#2) and no. 3 Richmond.
The league championship game is scheduled for Sunday, November 6, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. ET.
