Richmond, Va. - Duquesne senior Derek Freund's (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler Area) first goal of the season broke a scoreless tie as the Dukes' men's soccer team topped the Richmond Spiders, 1-0, Friday night in overtime.

The score was tied at 0-0 after regulation. Colin Vint's shot at 93:51 was successfully defended by DU senior Zach Varga (Mountville, PA / Hempfield). Senior Pat Dillon's (Langhorne, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) header at 95:19 was wide of the Spider net. Then at 97:25, Dillon found Freund whose shot past UR goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti caught the lower left part of the net.

The win raises the #14 Dukes' record to 13-3-0; Duquesne remains in first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 7-1-0 mark.

This is the fourth season in a row that the Dukes have won 13 games. Varga recorded four saves in his ninth shutout of the season, and the 10th in Duquesne's 13 wins.

Sciocchetti also had four saves. Richmond is now 4-7-8, 0-4-4 in league play.

The Red and Blue conclude the A-10 regular season on Sunday when they meet new conference foe, Charlotte (5-7-3, 2-2-3), at 1:00 p.m. at the Niners' Transamerica Field.
