Duquesne's men's soccer team clinched a spot in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 blanking of VCU on Rooney Field. The Dukes earned the 6-seed in the eight-team tourney and will face the third-seeded Rams again on Thursday at 2:00 in the opening quarterfinal round at Dayton.

""I'm very excited for the guys, we worked extremely hard all season and got the results we needed this weekend to secure a berth in the A-10 Tournament," said head coach Chase Brooks. "The guys worked their butts off today against a very tough team and now it's time to turn around and start to prepare to play them again in just a few day's time."

VCU controlled the game early before Kadeem Pantophlet took a pass from Matt Essig in the 28th minute and headed it into the goal for a 1-0 lead which carried into halftime.

That score held for the majority of the second stanza before Gomez found Chris Alescio in the 88th minute for an insurance goal. Karter Sell then took a pass from Thomas de Villardi with 43 seconds remaining and tapped it into an empty net to put it out of reach.

The Dukes outshot the Rams, 21-11 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Sam Frymier made four saves in posting his seventh shutout of the season.
