Dukes Play to 1-1 Tie in A-10 Semifinals
Nov. 12, 2004
The Duquesne University men's soccer team (13-6-1) played to a 1-1 tie versus host George Washington in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Dukes however, did not advance to the finals due to the Colonials' 4-3 advantage in a five-shot penalty-style shootout situation.
Senior Derek MacKenzie gave Duquesne a 1-0 halftime lead, scoring on a penalty-kick but GW tied the contest in the second frame with a penalty-kick goal of its own to send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in two 10-minute sudden death overtime periods, forcing the shootout.
The Dukes will now await Monday's NCAA pairings release in anticipation of an at-large bid.
