MacKenzie drafted by MISL Philadelphia KiXX

Feb. 22, 2005

Philadelphia, PA, February 22, 2005 - Philadelphia KiXX Executive Vice President/General Manager Greg Bibb announced today the acquisition of six players, including former Duquesne University midfielder Derek MacKenzie, in the 2005 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) College Draft.

MacKenzie, a native of Carnegie, Pa.(Chartiers Valley HS) was selected with the draft's 33rd overall pick in the third round. MacKenzie led Duquesne in scoring this season with 16 points on five goals and six assists, en route to earning 2004 All Middle Atlantic Regional First Team honors. He was also named to the Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference squad and led the Dukes with three game-winning goals.

MacKenzie finished his collegiate career as DU's all-time assist leader with 28 and is third all-time with 50 points.

MacKenzie's father, Dave, played for 10 seasons, eight with the Pittsburgh Spirit and two with the Baltimore Blast, of the original MISL from 1978 to 1988. Over that span, he amassed 263 points on 90 goals and 173 points in 420 games. He also played one season (1988-89) with the Ft. Wayne Flames of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA), where he registered nine points and 11 blocks in 27 appearances.

All seven active teams, as well as the expansion California Cougars, participated in the draft, with order of selection based on each team's won-lost percentage from their last completed regular season.

The draft consisted of one Territorial Round and four standard Numerical Rounds.

In the Territorial Round, teams selected a player who was either born or attended college in the team's home state.

California, who is scheduled to debut in 2005-06, selected first in each round, while the Chicago Storm, who made their debut this season, selected second. The St. Louis Steamers, Cleveland Force, Kansas City Comets, Philadelphia KiXX, Baltimore Blast, and the Milwaukee Wave rounded out the draft order. Cleveland also received the third selection in each Numerical Round via a trade with the now-inactive Monterrey club.

The complete round-by-round breakdown of the KiXX selections is as follows:
