Nov. 10, 2006

Duquesne University men's soccer players seniors Brian Bartek (Jefferson Hills, PA/ Thomas Jefferson), Noah Salsi (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Jared Helfrich (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) were all named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II First Team while junior Travis MacKenzie (Carnegie, PA/Chartiers Valley) was named to the Second team as voted on by the district's sports information directors. It marks the second straight year Duquesne had four players honored.

Bartek earns his first CoSIDA honor after posting career high in goals (2), assists (2) and points (6). A four-year letterman and two-year starter, he boasts a 3.68 cumulative grade point average as a finance major.

Salsi is a three-time All-District selection and is a two-time Academic All-American. This year he is scored a goal and had four assists while maintaining a 3.85 cumulative gpa as a physician assistant major.

Helfrich makes his second appearance on the Academic All-District list after posting a cumulative gpa of 3.95 in finance. A defender, he helped hold Duquesne's opponents to 23 goals in 21 contests.

MacKenzie led the team in scoring with 20 points on six goals and eight assists and managed two game-winning goals. A First Team All-Conference selection, he holds a 3.32 gpa in business.

To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon on the national level.
