Six Dukes Receive Atlantic 10 Soccer Post-Season Honors

Six Duquesne University men's soccer players received Atlantic 10 post-season awards today as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
Freshman Chris Alescio (Glenville, N.Y./ Scotia-Glenville), sophomore Thomas deVillardi (Vincennes, France/Universite Catholique de l'Ouest) and sophomore Kadeem Pantophlet (Tiel, Netherlands/ Canarias Basketball Academy) were all named to the All-Rookie Team while senior Simon Gomez (Manizales, Colombia/Alonso), junior Austin Lange (Apollo, Pa./Kiski) and junior Colin Philips (Ottawa, Ontario/Brookfield) were named Academic All-Conference.
Alescio had six points on the season with three goals, de Villardi managed five points on five assists and Pantophlet tallied nine points on four goals and an assist. Three of his goals were game-winners.
Despite missing six matches due to an injury, Gomez led the team in scoring with 11 points on two goals and a team-best seven assists. He is an athletic training major with a 3.82 cumulative gpa. Lange was third on the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and an assist. He is a physician assistant studies major with a 3.83 gpa. Phillips contributed five points on two goals and an assist. He is a physical therapy major with a 3.93 gpa.
The Dukes finished the 2013 season with a 9-7-1 overall record and a 4-3-1 slate in Atlantic 10 play. The sixth-seeded Dukes will take on third-seeded VCU Thursday at 2:00 pm in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship in Dayton.
