Helfrich and Salsi Named Academic All-Americans

Dec. 5, 2006

Duquesne University men's soccer seniors Jared Helfrich (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and Noah Salsi (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) were recently named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Helfrich was named to the second team while Salsi was named to the third team. It marks the seventh straight year Duquesne has had at least one soccer player on a national team.

Helfrich receives his first Academic All-America honor after posting a cumulative gpa of 3.95 in finance. A defender, he helped hold Duquesne's opponents to 23 goals in 21 contests in 2006.

Noah Salsi

Salsi is a three-time All-District selection and is now a three-time Academic All-American. This year he scored a goal and had four assists while maintaining a 3.85 cumulative gpa as a physician assistant major.

To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon on the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America teams since 1952.
