Dukes Set Two school records on Day One of A-10's

Duquesne's men's and women's swimming teams fared well in the first day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Swimming Championships, held in Buffalo, NY. The teams competed in the 200 yard medley and 800 yard freestyle relays.
In the men's 200-yard medley relay, Duquesne's team, including seniors Scott Darwin and Eric Bugby, sophomore Mike Ley, and freshman Ian P. Walsh, took second place with a time of 1:32.17. That time set a new Duquesne school record in the event.
Another strong performance by the men in the 800-yard freestyle relay also set a Duquesne school record. The team of seniors Clayton Dean and Ed Wicker, junior Ian Walsh, and sophomore Chris Kobela finished in second place with a time of 6:46.78. In the overall ranking, the Men's team holds second place with 68 points.
For the women, the 200-yard medley relay team took fifth place, finishing with a time of 1:47.71. And the 800-yard relay team of seniors Melissa Johnson, Jennifer Gordon, Liz Yager, and freshman Anne Hayles finished in third place with a time of 7:38.54. Their performance also set a new school record. In the overall standings, the women are in seventh place with 60 points.
Competition will continue today at 10:30 with morning trials in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, and the 50-yard freestyle. This evening's finals will be for the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard freestyle relay events.
