Four Swimmers Named Academic All-Conference

Four Duquesne University swimmers were named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference teams as announced today by the league office. Seniors Amy Gersbach (Tabernacle, NJ/Shawnee) and Jillian Rupinski (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) were named to the women's team while junior Scott Darwin (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) and senior Doug Yeager (Dallas, PA/Dallas) were named to the men's team.
Gersbach placed sixth at the Atlantic 10 Championship in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:39.78, placed 11th in the 1650 freestyle at A-10's with a time of 17:44.84 and came in 16th at A-10's in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.48. She holds school records in the 400 IM, 1,650 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle. Gersbach is a two-time A-10 Academic All-Conference honoree and is a secondary education/mathematics major.
Rupinski, an elementary education major, earns her third A-10 academic award. This year, she helped set a school record in the 400 medley relay by finishing second at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a time of 3:54.35, finished 11th at A-10's in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:06.55 and placed 11th at A-10's in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.41. She holds school records in all three events.
Darwin receives his second straight Atlantic 10 Academic award after helping set five school records at the A-10 Championship. He was crowned the Atlantic 10 champion in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.83, finished second at A-10's in the 100 backstroke with a school record time of 50.68, helped the Dukes win the Atlantic 10 crown in the 200 free relay with a school record time of 1:22.40, helped set a school mark in the 200 medley relay at A-10's, placing second in 1:33.48 and helped the 400 free relay placed second at A-10's in a school record 3:03.69. Darwin is an environmental science management major.
Yeager earns his third Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference honor after participating in six different events for Duquesne this year. This year he placed 12th in the 100-yard backstroke at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a personal best time of 53.52, finished 21st at A-10's in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.80 and also competed in the 50 free and both medley relays. Yeager is a secondary education/mathematics major.
