Duquesne '83

Whitney Snyder returns for his tenth season as head coach of the Duquesne University men's tennis program after taking over in the spring of 1996. A 1983 graduate of Duquesne and the 1998 Atlantic 10 Co-Coach of the Year, Snyder is continuing to give back to the University and establishing Duquesne as a perennial force in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

He has brought new enthusiasm and excitement to the Duquesne program by having the Dukes play a more challenging schedule in both the fall and spring seasons. As a result, the Dukes have generally finished among the top half at the Atlantic 10 championship under his tutelage and in 2003, grabbed a University all-time best third place showing at the conference tournament.

Snyder came to Duquesne as an undergraduate after his sophomore year at Denison University, where he was the Ohio Athletic Conference singles and doubles champion and a participant in the National Championships. While at Duquesne, Snyder was team captain and the number one player on both the golf and tennis teams. He was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team in both sports as a senior.

After college, Snyder received masters degrees from Duquesne in both sociology and communications. He then played on the professional satellite circuits in the United States and Australia. As a player, he has consistently been highly ranked in Western Pennsylvania and in the Middle States section in both singles and doubles. Snyder currently is the head tennis pro at Butler Country Club and is a teaching pro at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville, where the Dukes often practice and play home matches.

Snyder, who was named to the 2002 class of the Duquesne University Sports Hall of Fame, is single and resides in Pittsburgh.
