QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne men's tennis team is now 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic 10 after a 5-2 victory over George Mason on Friday.
The match started out close, with the first two doubles points being split. At #1, Pete Carpenter and Alex Aleman were 8-2 winners over Joe Hill and James Lange. In a close match at #2, Mason's Taylor Sargent and Tanner Baine needed a 7-5 tiebreaker to get past Max Rubin and Rich Robbie 8-7. It came down to another tiebreaker at #3 doubles as the Dukes' team of Matt Slamecka and Harry Walshe defeated Jimmy Davis and Christopher Borden 8-7 (7-3).
The Dukes took four of the six singles points. Robbie fell in a hard-fought match against Davis at #1 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (8-6). Carpenter made quick work of Lange at #2 6-2, 6-2. Aleman and Corey Robinson were both 6-3, 6-2 winners at #3 and #4 over Joe Hill and Aaron Capitel respectively. Rubin was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at #5 over Baine. Sargent and Mehdi Mekaoui split the first two sets 1-6, 6-1 before Sargent won in a breaker 10-5.
