#DuqMTen Falls in Spring Break Matches
March 9, 2014
TUESDAY'S MATCH: Charlotte 6, Duquesne 1
QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne men's tennis team originally had three opponents scheduled for the 2014 Spring Break trip, but due to inclement weather that hit the southeast portion of the country, the match against James Madison was cancelled. The Dukes played two very difficult teams in Charlotte and South Carolina State.
The first match was against former Atlantic 10 Conference foe Charlotte, who had an Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking of #75 one week ago. The 49ers (6-3) came away with a 6-1 victory on their home court at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. Pete Carpenter recorded the lone point for the Dukes with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 win at #2 singles.
The second match was against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference South Division preseason favorite South Carolina State. After battling to victory at #1 doubles with Alex Aleman, Carpenter was forced to sit out singles due to injury. Rich Robbie and Max Rubin were straight sets winners at #1 and #5 and Medhi Mekaoui won at #6 singles in super-breaker.
COACH GREGOIRE QUOTE: "Although we fell to a very talented South Carolina State team, it was a great effort by everyone. Rich, Max and Medhi played their best tennis of the year to make the match close."
UP NEXT: The Dukes are off until March 21st when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Villanova followed by Saint Joseph's the following day.
