FRIDAY'S RESULT: Duquesne 7, Villanova 0
VILLANOVA QUICK RECAP: The Dukes opened the weekend with a 7-0 shutout against the Wildcats at the Villanova Tennis Complex. Duquesne did not lose a set the entire match against the winless Wildcats.
SAINT JOSEPH'S QUICK RECAP: The Dukes improved to 10-4 overall and remained perfect in the Atlantic 10 Conference at 4-0 after recording their fourth shutout of the season, 7-0 over the Hawks. Duquesne swept the double point, although two of the three matches were close. After Rich Robbie and Harry Walshe won at #3 doubles 8-4 over Dan Barrus and Paranjay Malhotra. Alex Aleman and Pete Carpenter held off Jose Sierra and Pierre Brondeau 9-7 at the #1 spot to clinch the point. Max Rubin and Corey Robinson needed a breaker to win against Andres Urrea and Kyle Chalmers 9-8 (7-5) at #2 doubles.
The Dukes won all six singles positions. The top four singles players - Robbie, Carpenter, Aleman and Corey Robinson were all straight sets winners. At #5 singles, Max Rubin, playing his final match in front of his hometown crowd, went out a winner in a superbreaker over Kyle Chalmers 5-7, 7-6 (5-7), 10-3. Mehdi Mekaoui also was victorious in a superbreaker over Tristan Boustany 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
RETURNING HOME: The Dukes close out this home schedule with a pair of matches this weekend - Friday against Dayton and Saturday against Northern Kentucky.
