April 13, 2003
Duquesne's fifth-seeded men's tennis team placed third at the Atlantic 10 Championship after defeating third-seeded Xavier, 4-2 on Sunday at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville, PA. This is the highest Duquesne's men's tennis program has ever finished in the conference standings. St. Bonaventure captured the 2003 title with the Bonnies' 4-2 victory over Richmond. The Dukes lost the doubles point, but bounced back to win four of the six singles matches as sophomore Seth Fogelman (Naples, FL / Barron Collier) won at number one, junior Micael Lopez-Acevedo (Guaynabo, PR / Colegio Marista / Bowling Green) won at number two and freshmen Russell Moseley (St. Michael, Barbados / Louis Lynch Secondary)won at number three and Robert Ojeda (San Juan, PR / Marquette) won at number six. Lopez-Acevedo paced the Dukes throughout the weekend tournament as he was a perfect 3-0 at number two singles and, teaming with Fogelman, won one DU doubles match today over the Musketeers' Matthew Thinnes and Rob Simpson, 8-5. Previously, Duquesne's best finish in men's tennis was fourth, which DU last achieved in 2000. Today's result raised Duquesne's place in the 2002-03 Atlantic 10 Commmissioner's Cup men's standings to a tie for third place with 33 points. Duquesne Results Singles:
