Men's Tennis Opens A-10 Championship with 4-0 Win Over St. Bonaventure

MASON, Ohio - The #5 seed Duquesne men's tennis team advanced into the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship after a 4-0 victory over #12 seed St. Bonaventure held at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
The Dukes (12-6) came out strong in the doubles point, with the team Rich Robbie and Ben Klaas defeating the Bonnies' Gabriel Cardenas and Trevor Haskell 8-3 at the No. 3 spot. The No. 1 team of Alex Aleman and Pete Carpenter follow suit shortly thereafter with an 8-3 win over Oscar Yanez and Luis Guevara to clinch the point. Max Rubin and Corey Robinson were leading Javier Ortiz and Elliot Fanshel 6-4 at No. 2 doubles as the deciding point was completed.
In singles, Duquesne preserved the shutout. Robbie was done first with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Fanshel at No. 1. Harry Walshe was finished next at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Celso de Vera Rehberger. Aleman's 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Guevara was the Dukes' fourth and game-winning point.
Carpenter led Yanez 6-3, 3-3 at No. 2, Robinson led Oritz 6-6 (4-1) at No. 4 and Rubin was leading Haskell 6-3, 4-1.
Up next in the quarterfinal round will be #4 seed Xavier, who advanced by defeating #13 Dayton 4-0. The Dukes and Musketeers will meet Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.
