Duquesne's men's tennis team compiled an impressive record at the 2008 Ball State Invitational Oct. 3-5, led by sophomores Steve Herchko and Mikhael Rasner who each went 6-2 at the event.
The Dukes as a team combined for a 17-9 singles record and a 16-8 doubles mark with two individuals advancing to the finals and one individual and three doubles teams making it to the semifinals.
Rasner went 4-1 at flight C singles, losing to Purdue's Matt Manasse 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) in the finals. Junior Gustavo Villares went 3-1 at "D" singles, bowing in the finals to Northern Illinois' Ross Vanderploeg, 6-3, 7-5. Herchko lost to Manasse in the semifinals 6-4, 6-7(8), 1-0(8).
In doubles play, senior Alex Mast and junior Mark Maciuch advance to the flight A semifinals, Rasner and sophomore Zach Skorupka lost in the flight C semifinals and Villares and freshman Rafael Santiago lost in the flight D semifinals.
Herchko and junior Jeremy McClelland lost their first match at "B" doubles, then won their next three to win the consolation bracket.
The Red and Blue return to action on Thursday, Oct. 16 as they compete in the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional at Yale.
