Dukes Earn Three Seed in Atlantic 10 Championship

Duquesne's men's tennis team earned the number three seed in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship to be contested April 13-15 in Mason, Ohio. The Dukes will have a first round bye and will face the winner of No. 6 seed Richmond vs No. 11 seed St. Bonaventure in the quarterfinals Friday at 5:00 pm.
The Dukes were 4-1 against Atlantic 10 competition this season, including a 6-1 victory over potential first round foe St. Bonaventure.
Senior Aram Abgaryan, who was the 2011 Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week twice in 2012. Peter Cerpenter, a 2011 First Team All-Atlantic 10 choice also was A-10 Performer of the Week once this season. Freshmen Alex Aleman and Rich Robbie also received conference laurels as Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week recipients.
"The guys have worked really hard this year and I am pleased they were able to earn the #3 seed," said head coach Rob Castille. "But everyone starts over on Friday and there are anywhere from 6-8 teams that have a shot at winning the title. We won't have any easy matches and we will have to compete at our very best starting with our first match. It's definitely going to be an exciting tournament."
