Four Dukes Receive All-Conference Laurels

Duquesne University tennis players sophomore Mark Maciuch (Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy), junior Alex Mast (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), sophomore Jeremy McClelland (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and senior Michael Ortega (Guaynabo, PR/Colegio Rosa Bell) have all been named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis All-Conference teams in voting conducted among the conference coaches and sports information directors. Mast and Ortega were tabbed first team selections, McClelland was a second team choice and Maciuch was named to the All-Academic team.
Mast was 13-16 in singles play for the Dukes with the majority of his play, including his one decision in the Atlantic 10 Championship coming at first singles. In doubles action, he turned in a 20-11 mark, including a 2-0 showing at A-10's.
Ortega posted 26 combined wins on the season with an even split of 13 each at doubles and singles, all at number one and number two. He played at number one singles and number one doubles at A-10's posting an 0-1 record at each with four of his matched not playing to completion.
McClelland was second on the team with 45 combined victories, going 22-10 in singles play and 23-10 in doubles action. He went 1-1 at number two singles at A-10's being asked to move up a spot due to an injury. He was also 2-1 at A-10's at third doubles.
Maciuch led the Dukes with an impressive 49-17 record for the season, collecting 22 singles wins and 27 doubles victories while going 5-1 at A-10's. A business major, he boasts a 3.34 cumulative grade point average.
The Dukes posted a 17-7 record and placed sixth of 12 teams at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship.
