Micael Lopez Named A-10 Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year

April 23, 2003

Duquesne University junior Micael Lopez-Acevedo (Guaynabo, PR/Colegio Marista) has been named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year in men's tennis, in voting conducted among the Conference's sports information directors.

Lopez-Acevedo, who owns a 20-8 singles record, primarily at second singles, helped lead the Dukes to third place at the 2003 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship - their best finish ever. Acevedo was perfect at the Championship, posting a 3-0 singles mark, which included straight set wins against Saint Joseph's, Richmond, and Xavier, as well as a second doubles win against Xavier. For his efforts, he was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team.

In the classroom, Lopez-Acevedo sports a 3.93 grade point average as a biology major. He is a member of Duquesne's Dean's List, as well as the school's Director of Athletics Honor Roll and the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
