DU Men Set 3 More Records At Raleigh Relays
March 26, 2005
Raleigh, North Carolina - Duquesne University's track & field team set three more outdoor records on Saturday at North Carolina State's Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track on the NC State campus. Junior Chuck Mohan (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) and the 400 meter and 800 meter relay teams rewrote DU's record book today, giving the Dukes seven new school records at this prestigious event.
Mohan, the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, tossed the hammer 170 feet, 10 inches which broke his own Duquesne record (161' 10") set in 2003 at Akron University's Quad Meet.
The 400 meter team broke the school best (3:22.59) set just last week by juniors John Heinlein (Coraopolis, PA / Our Lady of Sacred Heart) and Ryan Wotus (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) and sophomores Luchin Lee (Pittsburgh, PA / Peabody) and Todd Mills (Bethlehem, PA / Freedom), at the VCU Ram Invitational in Richmond, Va. The new standard is 3:20.51.
The 800 meter quartet's finish of 7:44.01 broke the previous mark (7:44.21) set at the 2004 Penn Relays in Philadelphia by current teammates senior Joe Winans (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin), juniors Zack Dorman (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny) and Gary Malinko (Old Forge, PA / Scranton Prep) and sophomore Joe Kotzur (Homer City, PA / Homer Center).
Friday's new school records were set by senior Ryan Bender in the 10,000 meter run, Mills and Lee in the 400 meter run and intermediate hurdles, respectively, and DU's 4 x 1500 meter relay team.
The Dukes return to action next Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Championship at Carnegie Mellon's Gesling Stadium in Pittsburgh.
