Dukes Open 2009 Slate at VMI

Duquesne's men's track and field team opened the 2009 season at the VMI-W&L Track and Field Carnival March 27-28. Senior Tim Majewski and freshman Vibert Defreitas set school records at the event.

Majewski finished fourth of 52 runners in the 800-meter run with a school record time of 1:52.80. He also helped the Dukes place second of 11 schools in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:21.13.

DeFreitas, who was also on the 4x400 relay, set the new school standard in the triple jump, finishing second of 19 competitors with a leap of 45-03.75.

Also turning in strong performances were sophomore Mark Bucklaw who won the 43-competitor 1500-meter run in , freshman Dave Farina who was fifth in the 800-meter run in 1:53.80 and sophoore Lucas Carson who was third in the pole vault with a height of 12-08.75.

Though the majority of the Dukes competed at VMI, the throwers competed at the Western Pennsylvania Championships at Cal.-Pa. with senior Ryan Miller finishing second in the discus with a toss of 147-05 and also in the hammer throw with a 152-05.

The Red and Blue return to action on April 3-4 as they compete in the Duke Invitational.
