Men's Track & Field Enjoys Successful Weekend at Richmond

Duquesne's men's track & field team opened the 2012 season with a successful outing at the Fred Hardy Inviational in Richmond, Va. March 30-31.
Senior Vibert Defreitas finished first in the triple jump with a school record leap of 48-00.00. He also recorded a second place showing in the long jump with a distance of 23-06.00. With those jumps, he qualified for the IC4A Championship in each event. DeFreitas also captured fifth place in the 200-meter dash in 21.88.
Also qualifying for IC4A's was freshman Shakeil Carter who set a school record in the 200-meter dash with a third place finish in 21.79. He also placed sixth in the 100 meter dash in 10.89 and was 11th in the long jump in 21-00.25.
Also turning in top 10 finishes were Alex Barrette who placed ninth in the 200 meter dash in 22.47, Mark Bucklaw who finished eighth in the 1,500 meter run in 3:57.01, Alex Gladysiewski who placed fourth in the javelin with a distance of 178-09.75 and Ian Welch who was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 22-01.75 and second in the triple jump with a distance of 47-10.50.
The Dukes return to action on Friday, April 6 as they compete in the two-day Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va.
