DU Men Set 2 School Records Sat.
April 2, 2005
Pittsburgh, Pa. - Senior Luchin Lee established a new school hurdles mark while DU's 400 meter quartet set a new standard for the third week in a row as Duquesne's men's outdoor track & field team finished third at the Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Championships Saturday at Carnegie Mellon's Gesling Stadium. The Dukes also broke or tied five meet records and won four events in the 15-team competition. Lee, who broke his own Duquesne record in the 400 meter hurdles last weekend, repeated this feat in the 110 high hurdles at CMU. His fourth place time of 15.51, in the preliminaries, topped the record he set as a junior at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championships. And the 400 meter relay team of Justin Gunter, Gary Malinko, Ryan Wotus and Todd Mills finished in second place with a time of 3:19.60 -- which broke the mark set last week at the Raleigh Relays (3:20.51) -- which had topped the time of 3:22.59 put in at the season opener at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. Lee's first place finish of 55.28 in the 400 meter hurdles set a new meet mark. Joining Lee with firsts were senior Pat McGuire in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:34.25) and senior Chuck Mohan's effort in the discuss. Mohan's toss of 153 feet, 10 inches tied his own meet mark set last season.
DU's 800 meter relay team, the fourth DU first place finishers, won the competition in 7:54.50 which broke the meet mark of 8:00.64 set last year by the Dukes.
Senior Ryan Bender's third place finish of 33:14.50 in the 10,000 meter run topped the time of Duquesne's Sam Shea, set in 2003. CMU's Mike Bridenbaugh set the new WPIC mark of 32:39.90. Duquesne next heads to the University of Virginia's Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational which will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 15th & 16th in Charlottesville, Va. Team Scores
