Dukes Take Three Gold Medals At Bucknell Five-Way

Lewisburg, Pa. - Duquesne University's men's track and field team took three first places at Saturday's Bucknell Five-Way. Junior Luchin Lee (Pittsburgh, PA / Peabody) broke his own school record in the 110 meter high hurdles. Lee's time of 15.99 topped his previous mark of 16.17 set last week at the at UVA's Lou Onesty / Milton G. Abramson Invitational.
One of the gold medals went to sophomore Gary Malinko (Old Forge, PA / Scranton Prep) whose 1,500 meter run of 3:53.65 was just 0.19 seconds short of his school mark (3:53.46) set last weekend at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic. Maiinko's time was recorded in the first heat for this race; this heat featured the top-seeded runners. (The winner of heat 2 had a time of 4:10.43.)
Junior Ryan Bender (Indiana, PA / Indiana), who won the 5,000 meter race with a time of 15:14.34, led five other Dukes in the top ten in this event. Classmate Kevin Borelli (Dickson City, PA / Mid-Valley) took third with a time of 15:27.71 followed by freshman Brent Rogus (Monroeville, PA /Gateway) at fourth (15:32.21), senior Steve Moyer's (Allentown, PA / Emmaus) fifth (15:32.75), freshman Chris Horvat (Cleveland, OH /Gates Mills Gilmore) at 15:48.64 (7th) and freshman Steve New (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) in ninth place with a time of 16:08.25.
Duquesne's 4 x 800 meter relay team won their race with a time of 7:52.82.
DU, which came in fourth with 87 points, did not field competitors in the 200 meters, javelin, long jump and triple jump.
The Dukes next head to the prestigious Penn Relays, officially the Penn Relay Carnival, beginning on Thursday, April 22nd at Franklin Field in West Philadelphia.
